Holiday gifts for rowers

Don’t forget to check out the other gift guides I’ve posted too: Coxswains (2012) || Coaches (2012) || Rowers & Coxswains (2013) || Rowers, Coaches, & Coxswains (2013)

The holidays are fast approaching, which means you’ve got to start looking for gifts for the rower in your life or start thinking of things to put on your own holiday wish list. Here are some gift ideas you could ask for or get for your fellow rowing buddies.

Heart rate monitor // Gel seat pad // Rowing Faster // Oakley M-frames // Unisuit // Rowing ornament // Garmin sport watch + Heart rate monitor

Heart rate monitors are a great gift so you can’t go wrong here, regardless of whether you go with the traditional ones or the strap + watch combo. To further help your training, Volker Nolte’s “Rowing Faster” is a good read if you’re interested in learning more about technique, developing your strength, and … getting faster. A gel seat pad can be helpful too if you’re spending lots of time on the erg getting those steady state miles in.

Any of the next few options would make a great Secret Santa present if your team does that. No rower will turn down more spandex so a uni or pair of trou from JL’s bargain bin would make a great and simple gift. The more offensive to the eye, the better. If you know someone who likes showing off their love of rowing, a crew-related ornament could be a good addition to their Christmas tree. The reindeer one above is under $20 but you can also find a nicer one from Rubini Jewelers here.

Last but not least, can’t forget the Oakleys. Not only do they look good and protect your eyes, they’re #freespeed and well worth the money.
